Pinterest Marketing

How I learned to market using one of the most underused platforms online.

What is Pinterest?

One of the largest most widely used platforms that marketers often overlook is Pinterest. While on Pinterest users typically dont follow specific brands or people, they do often add brand’s pin-posts to their personal boards. Pinterest is a place were people, most often women, go to search for ideas or inspiration. Then when they find a pin with a product, service, or project they like, they can pin that post to a personal board to come back to. When these users click on these pins, they have the option to view and shop the products, services, or projects in that particular pin. These winners, then visit these website and often make purchases so they can bring their Pinterest board to life. Users can make boards for a number of different activities including weddings, graduations, homes, wardrobes, and more! Pinterest is a powerful platform for e-commers marketers.

What is a good Pinterest Strategy?

Now that we know that Pinterest is a powerful platform, how to we go about posting and creating for Pinterest? Here I have tested different Pinterest strategies that took my client’s Pinterest board from 2,000 monthly viewers to 11,000 in less than 3 weeks.

  1. Posting consistently 3 times a day: Like all social platforms it is best to start on a consistent posting schedule. For Pinterest’s algorithm, quantity is key, which is why I recommend 3 pins a day.

  2. Backlinking your post to a specific website page : Link your Pinterest account to your website and pull users directly to the product post in that site when they click on your pin. This creates a seamless user experience.

  3. Using SEO keywords in product descriptions: Pinterest operates ike a search engine. So, like all search engines, SEO is important if you want your pins to be discovered. Build your pin descriptions with key words to help users find your business!

  4. Using graphic design DIY content and videos: Pinners are often doers. Because of that, offer valuable how-to content either graphically or in videos.

  5. Scheduling out posts so I never miss a day: Consistency is key. That is why I recommend batching your Pinterest content and scheduling it so that you never miss a day!

Repeat

After a month of posting look at your results, what pins and keywords worked well? Which posts didn’t do well, why do you think this happened? Which posts sent users to your website and which posts did people pin to their personal boards. Analyzing the content you made and published will help you to understand what in your strategy is working and what can be improved. Make the necessary changes and watch your Pinterest grow! Happy Pinning!
